Winifred Fine
Mrs. Winifred Fine is a 75 year old, widowed African American female, who resides alone in a single family home in urban Little Rock. Mrs. Fine has been in her home for the last 40 years. Mrs. Fine has multiple health problems including congestive heart failure, and a spot on her left lung, that requires her to use oxygen. She also has complications from diabetes, colon problems and liver cysts.
Mrs. Fine was unhappy with her personal care workers. She had to complain to the agency when workers would eat her food and watch television with her instead of doing their work. Mrs. Fine’s physician recommended IndependentChoices to her.
Mrs. Fine’s niece, Belle, is now her personal care worker. Belle was originally getting paid $6.00 per hour, but now she has been receiving an increase to $6.50 per hour, “because she was helping me so good.” The remainder of Mrs. Fine’s money goes towards her Nitroglycerin patches (which are not covered by Medicaid), groceries, and over the counter medications. She also uses the extra money to have a lady come in to take her to the beauty shop once a month. Mrs. Fine has been satisfied with the work of her niece and the flexibility of IndependentChoices.
