Jewel Stephen

< < Back

Jewel Stephen is a young teenager living at home with her parents. In the past, Jewel, who has a congenital condition and uses a wheelchair, received respite and personal care services from agency aids. Her mother found that those arrangements often didn’t work out and she had difficulty getting services and personal care items for her daughter.

After changing to Consumer Directed Care (CDC), Jewel is able to get those goods and services she needs. Her mother shops at discount stores to get the most out of Jewel’s budget. She has been able to get ointments, powders and other personal care items. The Stephens also made improvements to a bathroom in their house to make it more accessible for Jewel. Jewel’s mother loves the flexibility that CDC gives their family. What’s particularly gratifying, she says, is being able to get more for her daughter with the money she saves.
