Goals: Expand consumer-direction as an option in all traditional waivers
Target population: Seniors and adults with physical disabilities currently receiving personal care or personal assistance in either the Elderly and Disabled Waiver or the SAIL Waiver
Number of anticipated participants: 90 participants in the first year of enrollment
Area Served: 7 Counties in the West Alabama Regional Commission: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa.
Waiver used: Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005

Program Activities:
Alabama's Cash & Counseling program will provide consumers the option to control their own waiver services. Consumers will receive a monthly budget based on his/her needs, and will be able to use this money to hire personal assistant services, make home modifications, and more. Counselors will work with consumers to develop and revise individual budgets. Consumers will have the option of appointing a representative, and being part of a peer support group.
The anticipated enrollment date is October 2007.
